On Friday, June 14, 2013 at York College Performing Arts Center in Jamaica, NY the New York Department of Education, Entertainers 4 Education Alliance/I WILL GRADUATE Program presented the Empowering Boys Closing the Achievement Gap Conference. It was a day of celebrities and surprises who came to applaud 1,200 male youth for completing 8th grade and entering high school. We encouraged these young men to achieve college success with the emphasizing the importance of education, college access and college readiness.
The Empowering Boys Closing the Achievement Conference was hosted by Tonya Lewis, (Executive Director of Entertainers 4 Education Alliance/ I WILL GRADUATE Program) with special guest moderators Jaime Foster Brown, (Publisher of Sister 2 Sister Magazine), and Angela Yee (Power 105.1 FM Radio Personality) where 1,200 male youth came together to hear empowering speeches and panel discussions by Wyclef Jean (Platinum Producer & Recording Artist), Fabolous (Platinum Recording Artist & Producer), Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott (New York City Department of Education), Elle Varner (RCA Recording Artist), Angela Simmons (Host of BET’s 106th & Park) and Amanda “Diva” Seales (Host of VH-1 Master of Mix).
